You can add a soundtrack to your whole book or selected page spreads, which will play automatically as your book is read.
Note: Soundtracks only work in books that are exported as an ePub to iBooks. They won't work in books exported as a video, neither will they work if published online or read in other ePub readers apart from iBooks.
Soundtracks are great for background music, or ambient sound effects such as rainfall. To add a soundtrack tap on the i button on the toolbar to access the Page Inspector and then choose the audio from your iPad’s music library (Track > Choose).
To have a soundtrack play throughout your book, apply the soundtrack to every page when prompted:
Alternatively answer ‘No’ and set the soundtrack for just a single page spread, or different soundtracks for parts of your book. If you use the same audio for adjacent page spreads then iBooks will play the audio continuously without a break as the reader visits those pages.
Using a soundtrack to narrate your book
As soundtracks play automatically when the reader turns to a page, one way of using them is for narration, similar to iBooks’ ‘Read Aloud’ feature. iBooks will play the soundtrack audio on a loop, so just remember to leave several minutes of silence at the end of your recorded narration to give the reader time to finish looking at each page.
Troubleshooting – Why isn’t my soundtrack playing in iBooks?
You can enable soundtracks in iBooks by tapping on the speaker icon on the iBooks toolbar. Check that soundtracks are enabled and that the volume in not muted on your device.
